1: Union-News, Tuesday, March 23, 1999 OBITUARIES D50 Edward A. Oparowski, Vietnam vet, SBA official; HOLYOKE Edward A. Oparowski, 57, of this city, formerly of South Hadley, a decorated Vietnam veteran, died Saturday at Holyoke Hospital. He worked for the Small Business Administration in Springfield and Hartford for a number of years as a senior loan officer and was later promoted to acting district director. He retired in 1989.

He was the zoning administrator for the town of Hardwick, Vt. Born in North Adams, he was a 1960 graduate of South Hadley High School and a 1977 graduate of American International College in Springfield, earning a master's degree in business and economics. He moved to Vermont in 1989 and returned to this area last year. He served as a captain in Army during the Vietnam War. He received the Bronze Star, two OS bars, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze stars, the Vietnam Campaign medal with device, and the Army Occupation Medal (Berlin).

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion in Hardwick, Vt. He leaves his wife, the former Arthur C. Ouellette SHELBURNE Arthur Charles Ouellette, 62, of this town died in a local nursing home. He was a selfemployed carpenter and specialist for many years. He retired in 1998.

Born in Westfield, he attended St. John the Baptiste Parochial School in Ludlow. He was a longtime resident of Merritt Island, and also lived in Cocoa, Fla. He leaves his wife, the former Lorraine R. (Frenere) Smith of Greenfield; four sons, Kelly S.

of Merritt Island, Charles R. Smith of Greenfield, John E. Smith of Davie, Fla. and Kim S. Smith of Turners Falls; a stepdaughter, Doreen M.

Garland of Greenfield; two brothers, Roger Smith of Holyoke and Joseph Leo Ouellette of Quincy; two sisters. Alice McKillop of Holyoke and Noella Hebert of Springfield; 13 grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild. A Mass will be Thursday at Holy Trinity Church, Greenfield and burial will be private at the convenience of the family following cremation. There are no calling hours. She was a former employee of the former Bondsville Print Works and the Federal Paper Board Inc. of Thorndike. She lived in Three Rivers for the past 20 years. Born in Poland, she came to the UnitedStates in 1950 as a displaced person. Her first husband was killed when the Russians invaded Poland.

She and her two children were sent to a Siberian labor camp where her children died. She was released from Russia to the Middle East, where she trav-1 eled to Italy and finally to London where she joined the Polish Allied Army and became a nurse's aide. She was a communicant of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and was a member of Rosary Sodality. Her second husband, Tadeusz Jambora, died in 1987.

She nephews and nieces in Poland. The funeral will be Wednesday morning at Motyka and Son Funeral Home and in the church with burial in the parish cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service. He was a 48-year National Blank Book of Holyoke employee. He began tap dancing at age 22 and founded the Geoffrey School of Dance in Easthampton, now known as the Hackworth Studio. It is run by his descendants. Born and schooled in Holyoke, he was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Easthampton. He was a Southampton resident since 1981.
