MONTANA - Across much of the region you can expect areas of smoke and haze, prompting an Air Quality Alert through Wednesday afternoon for the eastern plains and northern Wyoming.

Wednesday and Thursday, extreme heat will settle in with afternoon temperatures ranging between the upper 90s to 110 degrees.

Please be sure to drink plenty of water and limit your time outdoors during the day!

A Heat Advisory and Extreme Heat Warning will be in effect until 9pm Thursday for central and eastern Montana.

A Fire Weather Watch is also in place for central and southeastern Montana for Thursday afternoon and evening for continued hot temperatures, low relative humidity, and frontal passage bringing scattered thunderstorms and gusty outflow winds.

Please take extra precautions not to cause sparks as fire will have the increased potential to grow rapidly!

What is a red alert in New York? ›

What is the critical stage of fire? ›

It is essential to understand and be able to identify the different stages of a fire. This knowledge is not only crucial for effective fire suppression but also for ensuring your safety. Fires undergo four main stages: incipient, growth, fully developed, and decay. Each phase has distinct characteristics and dangers.

What are the three conditions for wildfires? ›

“Human carelessness is the biggest factor contributing to wildfires,” Roise said. No matter the cause, wildfires still require three key components to ignite and eventually spread: fuel, heat and oxygen.

What are the four conditions for a fire to exist? ›

Oxygen, heat, and fuel are frequently referred to as the "fire triangle." Add in the fourth element, the chemical reaction, and you actually have a fire "tetrahedron." The important thing to remember is: take any of these four things away, and you will not have a fire or the fire will be extinguished.

What are the atmospheric conditions for wildfires? ›

The risk of wildfires grows in extremely dry conditions, such as drought, heat waves and during high winds. Wildfire smoke is a mixture of hazardous air pollutants, such PM2.5, NO2, ozone, aromatic hydrocarbons, or lead.
