Last night, Team Oregon kicked off their time in Baltimore by celebrating their hard work and accomplishments of making it to National ProStart Invitational at a local restaurant where they got to speak with the Executive Chef from Rusty Scupper Restaurant and Bar. Fun fact: The Chef Executive Chef graduated from the ProStart Program 22 years ago! Then we walked the floor in preparation for the competitions coming up. Today the Culinary and Restaurant Management Teams will check in their products and projects and then this evening follow us live as TEAM OREGON from McNary High School and Salem CTEC - Career Technical Education Center parade through the hotel kicking off the competition with 46 other schools around the USA! Tomorrow, Saturday at 12:45 ET the Culinary Team takes the floor to compete and Sunday at 8am ET the Restaurant Management Team takes the competition floor! Courtney Smith with the Oregon Hospitality Foundation, Eric Aebi with Chemeketa Community College, and Paul Paz spent the day together at the Oregon ACTE Annual Conference in Portland discussing the roll out of the new skill requirements in the Hospitality, Tourism, and Culinary High School programs and employability skills to bring to the classroom. There were over 20 teachers, administrators, and staff members who chose to join the session. Thank you to all that came and participated today.
