George Kittle's passion for football is undeniable, and the San Francisco 49ers' tight end seems determined to keep playing until he physically can't anymore. While he played 16 games last season, Kittle has been no stranger to injuries over his career. Much of that can be attributed to his physical playing style and desire to contribute to the run game with his aggressive blocking.
Kittle is entering his eighth NFL season and turned 30 in October. San Francisco has long sought to provide some depth at the position to alleviate the workload on their All-Pro player but has yet to be successful. Kittle played 895 offensive snaps during his 2023 campaign, a significant margin ahead of the next 49ers tight end, Charlie Woerner, who tallied 312 snaps before signing a free-agent deal with the Atlanta Falcons.
"They got to start making some plans, perhaps for life after George Kittle," Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area recently shared on the "49ers Talk" podcast. "I know that's kind of odd to say because it seems like he's just so young, and he just, not too long ago, broke into the NFL. But he is 30 years old."
The 49ers attempted to bring in Detroit Lions tight end Brock Wright, offering a three-year, $12 million deal to the restricted free agent. However, the Lions matched the offer, keeping him in Detroit.
Regarding the attempt to add Wright, Maiocco stated, "It's a clear indication that they're looking to beef that up."
The reporter notes that San Francisco sought help for Kittle last year by drafting Cameron Latu and Brayden Willis. However, Latu spent the season on injured reserve, and Willis played only 48 snaps.
Matt Barrows of The Athletic recently noted that the 49ers anticipated a steep learning curve for Latu, and the recent attempt to acquire Wright might suggest the team is skeptical that the second-year player can develop into a significant contributor in 2024.
Yes. The 49ers expected it would take some time for him to adapt. The question is whether he can do so this year. (Their move for Brock Wright suggests they're skeptical)https://t.co/cPARrIJIqs https://t.co/CSMCx2g7o4

Unable to bolster the tight end group in free agency, the 49ers will likely turn to the upcoming draft. The team has reportedly expressed interest in Erick All of Iowa, Ja'Tavion Sanders of Texas, Mason Pline of Furman, Isaac Rex of BYU, Jaheim Bell of Florida State, Theo Johnson of Penn State, and Jared Wiley of TCU at various stages of the pre-draft evaluation process.

Insider's mock draft has 49ers trading up to address O-line
By David Bonilla
Apr 4
The San Francisco 49ers addressing the offensive line is a popular first-round scenario in many mock drafts. The last time the team used a first-round pick on an offensive lineman was in 2018 with the selection of Mike McGlinchey. Of course, the Niners have been without a first-round pick in the past two drafts due to the trade to acquire Trey Lance in 2021.Matt Barrows of The Athletic unveiled his seven-round 49ers mock draft, projecting the team's choices with each of their selections. The seasoned reporter aligns with the prevalent scenario of addressing the offensive line. He has the 49ers selecting former Georgia offensive tackle Amarius Mims with their first

49ers insider believes team may prefer WR Brandon Aiyuk play on fifth-year option
By Marc Adams

The San Francisco 49ers don't always do things like other NFL teams do. But they are consistent, for the most part. Seemingly every offseason, especially in recent years, a star player has wanted a new contract. From TE George Kittle and LB Fred Warner to WR Deebo Samuel and Edge Nick Bosa, the 49ers have given new contracts, but they have waited until late July-early August (and in Bosa's case—September) to do so, much to the chagrin of those players, who wanted their new deal sooner rather than later. It may not have happened as soon as the players wanted it to, but it has happened. Kittle's contract talks reportedly weren't as smooth as he might have hoped, Samuel famously scrubbed his social media accounts of all things 49ers, and Bosa didn't sign until a few days

Insider criticizes NFL's plan to schedule games on Christmas Day
By David Bonilla
Apr 2
The NFL's practice of scheduling games on Thursday nights, thus shortening the preparation time for participating teams, has drawn criticism. With games already set for Sundays and Mondays, and occasional Saturday matchups added towards the season's end, the league now appears poised to expand its schedule to include other days—at least for the 2024 season. This year, the NFL plans to hold two games on Christmas Day, which falls on a Wednesday. It marks the fifth consecutive year of games on Christmas Day, following last year's Monday Christmas matchups, which didn't significantly disrupt the routine given teams' familiarity with Monday games. The last

Why Field Yates doesn't believe the 49ers need significant offseason changes
By David Bonilla
Apr 1
Some fans may look at last season's outcome and think that the San Francisco 49ers require a substantial boost to defeat a team like the Kansas City Chiefs and finally win the Super Bowl. However, an objective observer would recognize just how close the 49ers came to emerging as champions. It took overtime and some brilliance from Patrick Mahomes to disappoint The Faithful again.ESPN's Field Yates believes the 49ers have what it takes to make another Super Bowl run without the need for sweeping changes. The foundation is already in place.Yates emphasizes that pass-rush depth will be crucial in 2024. San Francisco made efforts to bolster this area by signing Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos to complement Nick Bosa.Additionally, offensive line
